Contempt Law
The "contempt of court" procedure is among the methods available to enforce a court order when someone is able but unwilling to comply. To cure willful disobedience of a known court order, the court can require the payment of fines and payment of damages and can even require a person to spend time in jail. A private attorney can help to pursue "remedial" sanctions designed to bring the person back into compliance; the district attorney can pursue "punitive" sanctions designed to punish a disobedience which can no longer be remedied. A private attorney also can represent a person who faces contempt charges of either sort.
